Oakland Town Hall for Small Businesses

Monday, May 16, 2022 • 6:00-7:00 PM

Come learn about the possibilities for a Fair Share Business Tax and get your questions answered by Councilmembers Nikki Fortunato Bas and Carroll Fife

Oakland’s small businesses need tax relief and better city services - and billion dollar corporations need to pay their fair share!

At this Virtual Town Hall, you will hear more information about the efforts regarding this tax and what it would look like in dollars and cents, and have an opportunity to ask District 2 Councilmember Bas and District 3 Councilmember Fife any questions you may have about how this new tax system would work and how it would impact your business.

Update

Thank you so much to those who could join us at the town hall on the Fair Share Tax Initiative! We hope you were able to learn about the current state of Oakland’s inequitable tax system from our incredible presenters and that you were able to get your questions answered during the event. If you weren’t able to attend the Town Hall, check out the recordings below in English and Spanish.

Also, exciting update that on May 26th, City Council voted unanimously to place a unified progressive business tax on the ballot for November! The measure, introduced by Councilmember Bas and co-sponsored by Councilmembers Fife, Thao, and Kalb, would update the city’s outdated business tax structure and raise $22M annually.
