Community Summer Block Party

Come join C4C at the Summer Block Party we are hosting in partnership with the West Oakland Youth Center!
We’ll have food, games, music, and will be highlighting neighborhood artists, community groups and entrepreneurs. There will be a raffle where you can win prizes from local businesses. Mark your calendars, invite your friends and neighbors, and come by to join us on the 30th!
Update
On July 30th, C4C held our first ever Summer Block Party in partnership with the West Oakland Youth Center. The purpose of the Block Party was to bring local politics to the people in a safe, accessible and welcoming environment that fosters real connection and care between community members, connects them to neighborhood resources and city representatives, shares information about policies that impact them, and identifies and builds community leaders.
What a beautiful event it was! Ten neighborhood organizations showed up with something to offer to the community:
Community Ready Corps showed up with the tunes and served delicious barbeque from Everett & Jones
Moms 4 Housing handed out diapers and bags of fresh produce
Friends of the Hoover-Durant Public Library gave out free books
The West Oakland Youth and St. Mary’s Centers - which are located on the block - provided space and supported with tables and chairs
Axé Oakland offered a short performance of the Afro-Brazilian cultural art, Capoeira
The Crucible came out with samples of their industrial arts, along with their truck which blasted fire into the air
All of Us or None shared information and resources for our incarcerated community members
AAR Development Consultants
Hoover-Foster Resident Action Council brought games and bubble machines for the youth
As hosts of the event, Care 4 Community brought clothes, cupcakes and raffle prizes to give away
At the close of the event, these participants followed up to express their enthusiasm and excitement to participate in future events - an indicator that they felt the deep value in the space we had created to connect with each other and with community.
